Sounds bad: A person whose feet, legs, and abdomen swell up, but has no prior reason for doing so (meaning she doesn't already have a known liver, kidney, heart, or circulation problem that leads to swelling) should be evaluated in the E.R. if her own primary care doctor is not immediately available. Treatment depends on the amount of swelling, how fast it is increasing, and the actual cause of the swelling.
