Evening/ night time: Discomfort in the throat and persistent dry cough is frequently caused by GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease). Aka acid reflux. You might try an over-the-counter medication such as Zantac (ranitidine) and see if that alleviates your symptoms. If not, see your physician for a closer look.
