A member asked:

I've heard that someone with a leg fracture can develop an infection that can cause a pulmonary embolism. if this is actually true, could you name more than one of the infections that do this?

Not an infection: fracture can predispose one to development of deep venous thrombosis or blood clot which under right set of circumstances can propagate and even spread to lungs as pulmonary embolis. This is not an infectious process.

You heard wrong: PE is caused by venous injury and sedentary activity post fracture. Open fractures can get infected but doesn't predispose you to DVT.
