Threatened Abortion: Bleeding when you are 5 weeks pregnant is a threatened miscarriage. A vaginal ultrasound is indicated. At 5 weeks you expect to see a gestational sac inside of the uterus with a yolk sac and a 3 mm fetal pole. The babies heart is developing at 5 weeks and you may get lucky and see a heartbeat. Get a quantitative BHCG to correlate with the ultrasound. A progesterone above 10 is reassuring.
