But bites: The firm mass at one bite site may be a small blood clot(hematoma) from bleeding under the skin which occurred at the time of the bite. As long as these bite sites are not hot and reddened no secondary infection is likely and you can apply a cortisone type ointment to relieve itching. The hematoma may very slowly resolve.
