A member asked:

I have a gnawing pain in my upper stomach and nausea plus constantly fluctuate between having constipation and diarrhea. what'd be best to take?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Abdominal discomfort: This gnawing discomfort may be due to gastritis or a peptic ulcer and the fluctuating bowel pattern is consistent with an irritable bowel syndrome. It's best to be evaluated by a physician or gastroenterologist but in the meantime follow a bland diet, avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine and begin a medication like prilosec or zantac. Observe for black stools which occur with upper gi bleeding
