A member asked:

Alt went down to 65 from 89. ast was up to 42 from 39. is this cause for concern?

Yes: The vast majority of healthy people have AST and ALT of 20 or less, even though reference range is up to 40. Continue the workup. If you drink alcohol, stop. This may be chronic viral infection, hemochromatosis, Wilson's, or lupoid hepatitis -- all can kill you if missed but are easy to treat. Or it may be your liver just asking for more exercise. Best wishes.

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the change in AST is not meaningful. Did you take any action between the two readings? If you drink, did you stop? Did you lose weight? Did you stop or change any medications? For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
