It Depends: If you get depo provera in the first 7 days of your cycle, it works right away. If you don’t, you’ll need to use another form of birth control for 1 week. Always use condoms to protect against STD/STI transmission.

A week to a month: If the injection of DepoProvera was given to you during the first few days of your menstrual cycle, your ovulation will probably be blocked and you will be protected rather promptly ( within a few days to 1 or 2 weeks) . To be safe, waiting a month is often recommended. Remember to use male. condoms too.
