Gastroenteritis: Two conditions that cause these symptoms are food poisoning and a viral intestinal tract infection. Both usually resolve after a few days without specific treatment except rest, avoidance of harsh roughage foods, intake of adequate room temperature fluids including flat ginger ale and taking kaopectate or imodium to relieve diarrhea if it's severe.
