Foot pain: Pain of any sort causes us to contract, thus making it difficult to extend your foot. You need to see your doctor or a foot doctor. Could be a sprain or broken bone causing the pain. Your doc will help. Peace and good health.

Inflammation.: Pain on the top of the foot, with the inability to extend, can be associated with an acute inflammation of the synovial tissues and tendons on the top of the foot. As the calf muscles pull the front of foot downward, there is resistance of the extensor tendons (on top of the foot) as they cannot glide smoothly through inflamed tissue. To remove all doubt, you will need to be evaluated.
