Consider oral option: Regarding cream for genital herpes, you could try acyclovir (Zovirax). I would recommend oral preemptive therapy with acyclovir, famciclovir or valacyclovir -this means starting at onset sensation of new exacerbation or within two days. If you are having more than three episodes in six months, I would consider daily ora prophylaxis with any of these agents. Discuss these options with your doctor.

No creams work well: No topical treatments (ointments, creams, etc) work well against herpes. Any moisturizing cream may help make lesions less painful as they heal, and anesthetic gel (e.g. lidocaine, benzocaine) may reduce pain if severe. But none speed healing. Effective treatment to prevent or shorten outbreaks requires treatment by mouth, usually valacyclovir (Valtrex) or acyclovir (Zovirax and other brands).
