SCA vs ACA: Spino cerebellar ataxia (SCA) has many different forms caused by different genetic mutations - but very few of them can cause onset before 1 year of age (EG, type 7 can do this) Most cases of acute cerebellar ataxia (ACA) occur in children between 2 and 7 years old, and it most commonly follows a viral infection such as Chicken Pox.
