A member asked:

Is it normal that benadryl oral does not provide relief at all for chronic urticaria itchness no matter how high the dose?

Urticaria: The cause of recurrent urticaria is often elusive and difficult to treat. In my experience atarax has been more effective than benadryl or other commonly used antihistamines in relieving symptoms. An allergist is best qualified to evaluate and treat you.

Different cause: Benadryl is an antihistamine and so if your itching is caused by something else, it is possible that Benadryl might not work for you and so you should consult a doctor to figure out what is going on.
