Ulcers: H. Pylori is connected with damage to the stomach and duodenal mucus layer and ulcers as a result. You can be tested by your doctor. A breath test is preferred to see if you have a current infection. A blood test will only tell if you have ever had it even if it is gone now.

Pain: Some people have no symptoms whatsoever. Those who do have symptoms may have abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting. The symptoms can be pretty subtle. H. Pylori needs to be treated because it is a significant risk factor for developing stomach cancer in the future.

A 56-year-old female asked:

How soon after starting treatment for h pylori should i see improvement in symptoms?

Dr. Andrew Seibert

It depends : Usually treating the H pylori does not make symptoms improve. What it will do is help either the gastritis or the ulcer to heal, which can improve symptoms. Accordingly, it takes some time, usually a minimum of a few weeks, to begin to feel any difference. Hope this helps.
