Gastroenteritis: Likely gastroenteritis caused by a viral infection. He has a mild case as he is not vomiting. Stools likely to improve soon. Follow up with doctor if there is blood in his stool or if he is unable to keep food down. No need to change diet for now.

Infection likely: Please ask his pediatrician to consider viral and bacterial causes -- easy to test for these, and treat if detected.
