Many uses.: A syringe is the plunger and barrel into which medicine is drawn up. A needle is then connected to a syringe to administer medicine. Any syringe can be used to administer medications under the skin, into the muscle, or in the case of some special needles, into bones or the epidural space in the spine. They can also be used to withdraw body fluids. An "insulin" syringe is usually 1mL, not 10.
