Rectal blood: Rectal bleeding and lower abdominal pain must be investigated by a gastroenterologist or colorectal surgeon. Inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis may be present. Irritable bowel syndrome combined with bleeding from hemorrhoids is another possibility . If bleeding is copious or if abdominal pain persists, go to the hospital emergency room where prompt evaluation can take place. ?tics
