A member asked:

I have a wbc count of 16.8. couldn't find infection. getting tested again friday to check if they are stable. should i be scared it's serious?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Leukocytosis: Well there are a number of different causes for an elevation of the White Blood Cell (WBC) count. One would be the spleen - do you still have one? Sometimes indeed an infection causes an elevated WBC. There are plenty of other reasons though - mostly related to some kind of physiologic stress. I hate to put abnormalities of the blood system on there - but that too needs to be checked. See doc
