Pcp: Primary care physicians do order western blot testing depending upon clinical findings and results of other tests which may be done preliminary to the western blot test. Examples would be to confirm presence of Lyme disease or hiv.

Which Western blot?: Western blot tests are done for various infections. If HIV, it's outmoded; HIV WB tests are no longer done for confirmation. HSV WB is done mostly at the University of Washington lab in Seattle; in general, infectious diseases or STD experts are the ones to see.
