Viral: If this respiratory tract infection was of viral origin, antibiotics won't be effective if the infection was only a few days old. However if symptoms exceeded a week, antibiotics like augmentin are helpful as by then bacterial infection has often ensued. However augmentin is ineffective for viral pneumonia. If you aren't feeling improved after another day or two, or if you have fever, see MD again

Symptomatic Rx: Sounds like a cold. Antibiotics do not help for this. No cure for that but it is about rest, fluids, and time and of course managing the symptoms. Consider decongestants and antihistamines. Cough syrups and drops may be of benefit. If you are a smoker now would be a good time to stop. Ibuprofen and paracetamol will help with the aches. If not improving see your doctor to get checked out.
