Hard to know: More background information and an exam needed to address with accuracy. An initial thought: metal allergy related to jewelry? Infection would be unlikely to affect both earlobes simultaneously. A form of autoimmunity can attack cartilage, but unlikely to only effect the ear lobes. Very unlikely to be related to your history of mumps.
