Heart attack, failur: The "short term effects" of coronary artery disease (CAD), which is plaque build-up in the heart's arteries, are heart attack or sudden cardiac death from plaque rupturing. The "long term effects" are weakened heart muscle (failure) / ischemic cardiomyopathy from lack of effective blood flow & chest pain with exertion (chronic angina). 1/2 of pts with CAD are diagnosed by heart attack. TTYD if so.
