Some possibilities are: excess poop, as in constipation or obstruction; enlarged organ, as in a big liver or a liver tumor; excess fluid, as in kidney failure or in cancer; excess air, as in bloating due to digestive problems; etc... Some reasons for abdominal swelling are not serious while others are bad news.
