Several Causes: There are several potential conditions causing your mom's hyperpigmentation in her axillary region (armpits): Melasma - especially if she was started on estrogen therapy. Acanthuses nigricans - due to hyperinsulinemia Tinea Crura - Fungal infection Erythasma - Bacterial Skin Infection Systemic conditions - Addisons, Hemochormatosis Drug reaction I would need more information to determine cause.
