Hives: Hives are an allergic reaction. There are many possible causes of hives-foods, medications, infections, inflammatory or autoimmune conditions. Some women can be allergic to hormones and get a Progesterone or estrogen dermatitis that can look like hives. Hives lasting more than 6 weeks need a workup to look for causes.

Hives: Hives can be caused by allergic reactions, chemicals in foods, insect stings, sunlight exposure, or medicines can all cause histamine release. Sometimes it's impossible to find out exactly why hives have formed. Hives can also be caused by infections or systemic disease. See your local allergist for help.
