Caution with ANA: The ANA and chromatin antibodies are not to be used as screening tests due to the chance of false positives. If your "many symptoms" suggest the possibility of lupus erythematosus, then the full ANA panel needs to be done including chromatin, dsDNA, Sm, RNP, SSA, etc. However, the diagnosis of lupus is not made by labs tests but rather is made on history and physical examination.
