Throat started hurting about 3 days ago. i have been woken up the last 2 night by an extreme sore throat and 101 fever. i can't sleep and nothing help?

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies. Usually, a person sees a doctor if the sore throat illness is bothersome (as in this case), comes with other symptoms (such as 101 degree fever), is recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat).
