Could be infection.: Not sure if you are referring to the vagina or anus as your "private area", but i will guess you are talking about the vagina. Some white or clear mucus from the vagina is normal. However anything colored or odorous means infection or forgotten tampon. Get checked out!

Sounds NORMAL!: Depends on what is coming out. If it's a clear-to-white discharge that is kind of like "snot" then it's very normal. If it smells very bad, then you should see a doctor. In mid-cycle women tend to make a lot more 'lubrication'. It can be thicker or thinner, clear to white-ish. Usually not smelly or itchy. So, some parts of the month you'll have more 'slimy things' than during other times!
