SSRI's and pregnancy: How severe was your depression? Have you received other treatments effective for depression like CBT? How long have you been on the citalopram? Are you willing to expose the neonate to risk (not substantial likely but real including birth defects, serotonin discontinuation reaction at birth, possible emotional and psychological long-term problems)? Any history of postpartum depression?

No, not without: talking to your prescriber and/or your mental health counselor. Most SSRI antidepressants are reasonably safe in pregnancy (except paroxetine or Paxil®). In some patients, if they have been on antidepressants for several years with good effect, and it was their first time on antidepressants, and trial of tapering off and using psychotherapy and other techniques to maintain good mood can work.
