It is possible but: not very likely. Once the swelling and inflammation resolves you will be able to feel it if a piece is still imbedded. The plastic is pretty inert so it is unlikely to cause any trouble. Infection would be the main thing to watch for. Pus, swelling, redness and continued pain would be signs of this.
