Ear infection- URI: Ear infections are not contagious. They occur as a continuation of an upper respiratory infection (URI). Samples of ear fluid are rarely done in adults especially if the ear exam does not show sign of infection. You likely have a viral upper respiratory infection- antibiotics are not effective in viral infections.

Main treatment, drink plenty of fluids, honey for the cough, tylenol (acetominophen) as needed for fever. Multsymptom cold medications as needed for symptom relief.
