Emerg Contraception: The pill is most effective if it is taken within the first 12 hours. It might be still effective for up to 72 hours If there is high concern of getting pregnant the other option would be the copper intrauterine device that could be applied up to 5 days from time of intercourse

EC effectiveness: Emergency contraception (EC) is 89% effective in preventing pregnancy if taken 72 hours after unprotected sex. Do a home pregnancy 3 weeks after unprotected sex to determine if pregnant. EC may also cause irregular bleeding for the next cycle.
