Good question: plasmaphereis (plasma exchange) is used when steroids fail in controlling acute relapses of the disease.Why is it not curative: because it is an immune system dysfunction, I.e. the plasma exchange will help for a short period, the the immune system will act again necessitating another treatment, so no once and for all treatment with plasma exchange.
