Benign uterine tumor: Uterine fibroids are benign uterine tumors that occur in over 50% of women by the age of 35. These tumors arise from the muscle cells of the uterus, and are technically a benign form of cancer. They are rarely maignant, and usually require no treatment. Fibroids can cause infertility, heavier menses, pelvic pain or pressure, and sometimes become so large they require removal.

Benign tumor: Uterine fibroids are the most common pelvic tumor in women. They are benign and non-cancerous. They're often asymptomatic but can cause disabling symptoms in some women which will require treatment. Fibroids are particularly common in african-american women. Up to 80% of these women during childbearing years have fibroids. Fibroids tend to occur earlier, be larger, and more numerous in these women.
