A member asked:

Dry, rough throat whenever i swallow & feels phlegmy. it's not going away neither better or becoming a cold, but has begun to be troublesome at night?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dr. can check throat: New throat discomfort can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can help lessen pain.
