4+4 (4th gen, 4 wks): Your doctors are behind the times and don't understand HIV testing, or you misunderstood. With the standard HIV blood tests now used, to my knowledge there has never been anyone in whom it took more than a few weeks for a positive result. The 4th generation tests are conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after exposure.
