Both: are anti-histamines..Benadryl however produced drowsiness whereas the newer anti-histamines (eg "Reactine") are less likely to do that! For anaphylaxis I would stick to BENADRYL..(Plus an EP-PEN!!!!!) It has a long history of safety/effectiveness Hope this helps Dr Z
