Been wearing eye makeup for years, but a few months ago my eyes began getting bloodshot and painful every time i wear any sort of mascara/eyeliner, even "hypoallergenic" brands. not sure what to do? can't find a brand that doesn't cause irritation?

Patch testing: It can sometimes be helpful to have patch testing to try to identify the substance that is causing the reaction. It is concerning that you have eye pain, however, which could mean a more serious condition.

Throw it out!: There's no antibacterial in mascara, and you're infecting your eyes with each application. Mascara's only good for 2 months, so throw it out after that. Clean it off nightly too. Organic mascara use wheat, and if you're gluten sensitive, you'll react negatively. If not latex allergic, just use fake eyelashes or use only eyeliner. Keep blepharitis to a minimum. Use warm compresses.
