No damage: Studies have concluded that in order to cause any damage to the retina from light (phototoxicity) a bright light would have to be focused sharply on the retina for over 45 minutes. Most conscious patients could not tolerate this without blinking. Studies were done in primates (monkeys) and after 45 minutes of intense light a scar can be generated. Looking at a solar eclipse can cause damage too

Stop worrying: I'm old enough to remember the early 1950's, when popular writers were warning everyone that having televisions in our homes would blind us over time. It didn't happen then and it won't happen now.
