Good to stop: Seizures from withdrawal start within a few hours and there is a risk for several days. Shaking is also common in this period. Delirium tremens is a different, more serious entity that comes on after a few days. A dose of thiamine is in order for any heavy drinker. Medication can keep all of these at bay.
