Oral herpes: If you had a typical herpes outbreak at that spot, maybe that's the cause of the scar. Otherwise, HSV isn't the cause. If you have oral herpes, it is not active (and low risk of transmission) until and unless you have a fresh outbreak with new blisters or sores. Up to half of all adults have oral HSV1, so you wouldn't be alone. A blood test can tell if you have HSV1, but probably not necessary.
