HPV risks: With rare exceptions, genital HPV infections only involve the genital or anal area, or sometimes the mouth and throat. They are passed person to person only by sex. A cut in the skin is not necessary for transmission. Fortunately, serious outcomes (warts, cancer, etc) occur in only a small minority of infected persons. Get vaccinated to prevent infection with the 9 most troublesome HPV types.
