How do we count the number of days of menstrual flow correctly?

Start with bleeding: Start counting on your first day of normal flow and stop counting when the normal flow stops. If you counting days to try and get pregnant it is important to know that ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before the next cycle. If you are counting days to try and avoid pregnancy please realize that this does not work well. Birth control is a better choice
