Unusual: If you're not experiencing shortness of breath with exercise or other exertion, your symptom doesn't suggest a heart or lung cause or even a relationship to anemia. If drinking water distends your stomach it could make you feel like you can't take a deep breath for a short time. If the water goes down the wrong way, coughing would also occur. How much water intake makes you feel short of breath?

Sometimes this fleeting sensation is associated with isolated premature heart beats which would show up taking your pulse or wearing a cardiac monitor as an outpatient for 24-48 hours. Just a thought.
