Fever and cough: The symptoms of fever and cough with phlegm are commonly seen with lower respiratory infections such as pneumonia. To confirm a diagnosis and obtain proper treatment it will be important to see a physician. Common tests that may be performed are chest x-ray, sputum analysis and blood tests like CBC (complete blood count).
