Address cause: Irregular menstruation can be due to a number of factors -- including stress, polycystic ovarian syndrome, overexertion with exercise or physical activity, thyroid issues, eating disorders, weight changes. It's best to address the cause of the irregular periods. Birth control pills can help regulate periods, but doesn't solve the underlying problem. If your period is late, check a pregnancy test.
