Gastroenteritis: This is typical of a viral gastroenteritis which usually resolves in several days to a week. Treatment consists of rest, drinking adequate fluids including flat ginger ale, avoidance of harsh roughage and taking kaopectate or imodium(for more severe diarrhea control) as needed. If diarrhea persists much longer, a stool culture to check for pathogenic bacteria or parasites is ordered by your MD.
