Sinusitis: Acute bacterial rhinosinusitis is a different disease. Most rhinosinusitis is caused by viruses but if symptoms last beyond 10 days or worsen after 5 days + fever/headache bacteria concern= ABRS a course of amoxicillin or augmentin with intranasal steroid is indicated in the acute setting. https://www.cdc.gov/getsmart/community/materials-references/print-materials/hcp/adult-acute-bact-rhino.pdf

Antibiotic need: by your symptoms it sounds like you likely have an upper respiratory infection which in most cases is caused by a virus and can be treated with nasal saline and decongestants. If your symptoms do not start to alleviate within 5-7 days a bacterial infection may be present and you should be evaluated by a physician to see if you need to be treated with an antibiotic. Hope you feel better soon
