A member asked:

My doc asked me to take 2 pills of 325mg of iron daily for iron deficiency.can i take 25mg iron bisglycinate instead?how much iron bisglycinate daily?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Insufficient: 25 mg of bis glycinate is not enough to replace 325 mg of ferrous sulfate. Ferrous sulfate is less expensive. You should take it with meals and if constipation is an issue, take a fiber laxative like Metamucil. For more information you may consult this paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24152889 For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.
