"average" gaining: In many communities in the US, half of girls are obese, so "average" is no longer the same as "healthy" weight. Aim for a health weight. Being slender is hardly ever a health problem. Being obese is a disaster waiting to happen.

Not an easy answer: While we can measure weight & height, normal is tricky b/c ideal changes monthly. Check out http://www.Cdc.Gov/growthcharts/data/set1clinical/cj41c022.Pdf re height & weight for age in girls. Go to http://apps.Nccd.Cdc.Gov/dnpabmi/ to calculate body mass index (same as adults). Finally go to http://www.Cdc.Gov/growthcharts/data/set2/chart-16.Pdf to determine where bmi is for age (normal is 5-85%).

7 (ranges from 6-8): A typical 13 year-old girl weighs about 100 pounds, which is 7 stone. Taller girls can weigh more, and shorter girls can weigh less. The usual range is from 6 to 8 stone. As long as a girl is eating a healthy diet with a variety of nutritious foods, she should be fine.

13 years old: Your daughter must be having her height and weight checked at every clinic visit. These are attached to a Growth Curve for height and weight. Your doctor must share this with you and your daughter and based on what you find will determine whether your daughter is doing OK or not. I am surprised and disappointed that this information is not shared at every visit..
